Inspired, Empowered, Connected to God’s Strength

I have been pondering what it means to be a strong person. A person who makes it through not only the trials, the tribulations, but also life in general. The person who smiles in the face of adversity. Is that truly what it means to be a strong person? Or is that person only strong because of the situations that have positioned them for strength?

Was Jesus strong? In the last days Jesus said, “that he told the disciples these things?” What are these things? He told the disciples that the father loved them because they loved Jesus and they believed that Jesus came from God. Then Jesus says, I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.” Jesus had been walking with them all this time but in this moment He spoke plainly to them. I imagine that in that moment the doubt or unbelief that some of them had about Jesus being the son of God became less.

Then he says, a time is coming when you will be scattered, each to your own homes and you will leave me alone yet Jesus said, “that he was not alone because His father is with him”. I find it interesting that Jesus says, that at the end of it all it is only He who faces the cross alone with His father. We may walk an entire life with those that we love but at the end of an individual’s life it is just that person who stands at the cross with God. The word of God says that to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:8 “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord“.

No one will go with you. You will be the only one left standing at the cross with God. But then Jesus goes on to say, that He has told the disciples these things so that they may have peace, to take heart because Jesus overcame the world. In other words we can be at peace in the world to be strong because Jesus was strong. He overcame everything in the world, so that he could demonstrate to us that if he could overcome the world, so could we. Strength isn’t one thing in our lives that we have overcome. Strength is everything in the world that we have overcome!
